For technical uses, a range of characteristics and parameters are of importance; moisture impermeability for coating purposes, low colour, fatty acid composition and iodine value for soaps and tensides. For candles the correct melting characteristics are of main significance. Other more general characteristics such as free acid content, kosher and GMO are also often important.
