Sime Darby plans to invest over 34 million Euros in its current Unimills facilities in Zwijndrecht and other business locations in Europe to further strengthen its position in the oils and fats downstream business in Europe. Zwijndrecht, 3 December 2007: With the creation of Sime Darby Berhad, Malaysia’s newest multinational, Unimills is now part of the world’s largest plantation group pledged to sustainable production. Sime Darby is the merger of Unimills parent company, Golden Hope Plantations Berhad, with two other leading Malaysian plantation companies, Sime Darby Berhad and Kumpulan Guthrie. Launching a revolutionary product was Unills' answer to its customers' demand. A merged Sime Darby Bhd, Golden Hope Plantations Bhd (GHope) and Kumpulan Guthrie Bhd will have a combined land-bank size of slightly more than 600,000ha. Sime Darby’s plantation land bank is fully planted with oil palm while Kumpulan Guthrie’s land, the bulk of which is in Indonesia, is about 80% planted, and so is about 85% of GHope’s land. Unimills today launched Cremex®, a new group of healthy fat formulations for ice creams with low saturated fat levels and excellent creamy taste. The new Cremex® products include the Cremex®100, Cremex® 200 and Cremex® 300 series with saturated fat levels as low as 40%. Today, most ice creams on the market are based on either coconut oil with a saturated fat level of 92% or dairy butter with 63% saturates and 4% trans fats. Dutch company Unimills, owned by Malaysian plantation giant Golden Hope, said it has invented an ice cream with a low level of saturated fat, making the summer's favourite treat healthier. Malaysian plantation giant, Golden Hope Plantations Berhad (GHPB) will sign a unique four year collaboration agreement with NIZO food research, Food Valley, Ede, Netherlands. This agreement will allow the customers of Unimills, a European subsidiary of the Golden Hope group and a leading edge supplier of tailor-made vegetable oils, to tap from the unique food innovation expertise and facilities of the Food Valley organisations. The vast majority of European and US consumers feel that improving health is important since too many consumers suffer from obesity and related diseases. These health concerns drive food manufacturers to eliminate trans fats and increase levels of unsaturated fats in their products. 26 October 2005 Unimills took part of the Dutch MVO “Symposium vet beter”. International Dutch food companies, as well as producers of oils and fats were attending this event. Unimills B.V. organized an event for the opening of the new dry fractionation plant of Unimills.
